Pip_X's Windows Live™ SpacesNo more crap. января 16 Windows 7: Media Player's Trouble, Office 2007 + Widget.Strangely, I unable to play any video files on Windows 7 with the new Windows Media Player 12 (Google It) (Wikipedia) on the laptop I used to test. I found out that this is also the cause for the issue that I had earlier with Windows Live Essentials (Google It) (Wikipedia) and unable to complete the system performance check. But with VideoLAN (Google It) (Wikipedia), I can view the video where Windows Media Player 12 will just cause the whole computer hangs. I 've updated to the latest video driver but still I have this issue. Is Windows 7 build 7000 still do not support video card without WDDM driver?
As expected, Office 2007 works fine on Windows 7: 
The only issue is I cannot validate it and also Windows 7 via the Microsoft Validation page, saying that my OS is not supported.
This is the default offering for the Widgets: 
Clicking on the "Get more gadgets online" brings me to Windows Vista Sidebar page.
Unfortunately I unable to test media related Gadget as the computer will just freeze.

- Force enable Aero (Windows 7 has decided that this old laptop is not powerful to handle Aero) января 10 Windows 7: Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Windows Live EssentialsI found the Vista driver for ENE Tech. CB-712/714/810 CardBus Controller (the build-in flash card reader). Installed the driver, Device Manager reported that it's working fine but it still unable to detect any flash card I inserted. This and the hardware driver issue that I had and still have, I guess that Windows 7 is not as hardware friendly as I thought, and it definitely do not have the full compatibility with Windows Vista claimed by Microsoft.
I've successfully installed Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows 7 and it works great:
 Big kudos to Kaspersky team for a usable antivirus for Windows 7.
Windows Live Essentials (Google It) (Wikipedia) system requirement website stated that for Photo Gallery and Movie Maker, some components of DirectX9 will be install, and I strongly recommended to NOT install both Photo Gallery and Movie Maker as it crashed the OS once the DirectX9 components is installed. Otherwise, everything is working fine...NOT! The computer is still hang eventhough I only install Messenger and Writer. Not sure what happened, but Live Essentials crash my laptop, so no Live Essentials on Windows 7 for me.
The taskbar, which is now called as "SuperBar" is very nice and useful. A color indication on the tabs (color depends on the icon color) move along the cursor:

- Force enable Aero (Windows 7 has decided that this old laptop is not powerful to handle Aero) Windows 7: Setting up the basics.I've successfully installed the WiFi adaptor driver by using the Vista driver, but not the other 2, which I have identified as:
- ENE Tech. CB-712/714/810 CardBus Controller (the build-in flash card reader)
Strangely, Windows Vista installed this driver automatically on the last time I tested the OS on this laptop. No worries, minor issue, I don't use FireWire and I can use a external card reader.
Another bug I found out, I unable to put Windows 7 to sleep state. The HDD spin but it wont stop for more than 30 minutes. I gave up after second tries and I changed the power setting to never sleep:
 And I installed Adobe Flash Player so that I can blog via IE8. Installed successfully via the install website:
 While doing all the testing in Windows 7, I'm having difficulties in differenciating between active application or just quick launch shortcut in the taskbar.

It's 2:10am in the morning now and I have not installed any anti-virus yet. (Except for the included Windows Defender (Google It) (Wikipedia))
Tomorrow I will install Kaspersky Internet Security for Windows 7 and report my findings here.
января 09 Windows 7: A new beginning.I admit it, I'm a Windows fanboy. But I totally do not dig Windows Vista at all, tried twice on RTM version and twice on SP1. But still I prefer Windows XP over Windows Vista anyday. So there's this Windows 7 (Google It) (Wikipedia) that supposed to fix and be the OS that Windows Vista can't be. Apparently the Windows 7 hype is so HUGE so I decided to give the new OS a try on my old Acer TravelMate 3212WXCi despite my schedule is so packed with stuff. And boy I'm so impressed with the stableness (this is a beta release!) and the speed that I have to open up a 2 years old blog to report my finding on the of Windows 7 (beta build 7000). This is the system properties and device properties once the Windows 7 is installed and fully updated: And the free space in C:/ after the installation, without any application installed yet is at 12.3GB/19.8GB. Windows 7 used only 7.5GB.
Things to do and report tomorrow: find the drivers for the 3 items (WiFi, built-in flash reader and another unknown) that still do not have the driver, and a working Anti-Virus (I'm eyeing on Kaspersky Internet Security (Google It) (Wikipedia) (Windows 7 version)). A little bug that I found out on this beta version, I unable to complete the test for system rating, it hanged before it could complete the test. Tried thrice.
From now on I will also report on Windows 7, tips and findings, onto this Spaces. Game - Cooking MamaCooking Mama (Google It) (Wikipedia) is a series of minigames that involve sliding, tapping and touching the NDS stylus, where these minigames is based on 'cooking' theme. There's a wide variety of 'meals' for you to choose to cook, more than 75, but basically you do the same stuff. You can unlock more 'meals' after you complete a number or 'cooking'.   Game - Harvest Moon DSHarvest Moon DS (Google It) (Wikipedia) is the first Harvest Moon game for NDS. This game is kinda like the gamecube version of the game, but with NDS's touch screen tools and menu navigating. For those who dunno what the heck is Harvest Moon, Harvest Moon is a series of very popular farming simulator, where we need to plant stuf, watering them, care for farm animal, built/repair house and barns, etc etc. If you want a 'The Sim'-like farming game, this is what you will need.   Game - Trauma Center - Under the KnifeTrauma Center - Under the Knife (Google It) (Wikipedia) is a very wonderfully intertaining game where we 'uses' many different types of surgery instruments via the NDS touch screen and perform surgery to patients within a given time. It's a very good game, make clever use of NDS touch screen, and have a great story-line. If you have no game to play on your NDS and finished all the great game that you wanna play, then by no means, try this great best-selling game.   декабря 05 Anime - Yakitate!! JapanYakitate!! She also seems to be particularly fond of Azuma, but at times, it seems like she's just as fond of Kyousuke. So she kind of plays the role of moral support and sex appeal for the anime. Suwabara Kai - The Ronin Baker of Truth Accepting momentary defeat at the combined efforts of Azuma and Kyousuke, this ronin with a rolling pin-katana trains night and day, pushing himself to the extremities of his limitations. He may lose a battle, but he absolutely refuses to lose a war to someone he thinks is inferior, or even equal to him. In all truth, Kageto seems to play very little part in any part of the series, regardless of the fact he's worked at South Tokyo Branch for longer than anyone. He really does deserve more respect than he gets, but tends to let his senority go straight to his head. Matsushiro Ken - The Burly But Odd Manager of South Tokyo Branch This tall, muscular fellow sports an afro and dark sunglasses, even a night. Though generally quite serious and sometimes just consise enough to get the point across, he has been known to wear fake masks to try(and generally fail) to boost moralé in humorous ways. Overall, he's an alright guy, and definately a deep well of useful advice for team South Pantasia.Some information for this page provided by. . . It's also very simple due to the usage of the touchscreen to move blocks around. Good for 10 minutes transit ride.   ноября 30 Game - Super Monkey Ball - Touch & RollSuper Monkey Ball - Touch & Roll (Google It) (Wikipedia) is yet another Super Monkey Ball game, but ultilized the NDS touchscreen to control the monkey ball. Very easy and fast to finish this game as it's only involving rolling a ball around. What's great with this game is it's mini-games, multiplayer-able and quite fun, in-fact, fun-ner than the actual main game. My favourite mini-game is Monkey Golf and Monkey Wars, a mini FPS with cute weapon. Control are good with the touchscreen, way better than Metroid and me think this is how every NDS FPS should be controlled.   ноября 29 Game - Elite Beat AgentsElite Beat Agents (Google It) (Wikipedia) is the English version of the highly popular import Osu! It have different but still wacky crazy side-story and with well-known English songs while retaining the same game-play - where we touch and slide the tiouchscreen with stylus, rhythming with the selected stage/song. This game is a very simple slash and hack brawler that not only Mana fans will enjoy, but the rest of us too. Good graphics, soundtrack, hack/slash gameplay and gems mechanics (a way to power-up our character, besides of leveling the character) but bad story-line, repetitive-ness and menu navigation.    ноября 16 Movie - Death NoteDeath Note (Google It) (Wikipedia) fans re-joy~!!! Both movie is great, almost capturing the feel in the manga eventhough with some major alteration with the story-line. Death Note is based on a manga (japanese's cartoon) about a person who found a note where if he write a person's name into the note, the person will die, how he use the notebook, and the obstacles he need to face. All anime fans should go watch both movie, me promise you wont be disappointed!   Game - Pokémon Mystery DungeonPokémon Mystery Dungeon (Google It) (Wikipedia) consists of 2 version, the Red Rescue Team for GBA and the Blue Rescue Team for NDS.
If you ever played a Mystery Dungeon game, then this is almost the same, but with Pokémon theme. A good one, with nice story, sticking to the Pokémon philosophy. Featuring almost the game RPG element as it's previous game, it has new move and skill, and the main character's younger version (babies). Anyone who like the previous game on GBA (Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga), will definately like this great game.   Game - SprungSprung (Google It) (Wikipedia) for NDS is a text based dating game (it's not a simulator and the graphics, the chicks are nothing to shout for). It have great story however, and some the the scenes are difficult too. Play this only if you have too much time thinking how you can impress girls anf friends.   Game - Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! (Google It) (Wikipedia) is a musical rhythm game where we need to touch the screen according to on screen instruction and songs rhythm which is suprisingly addictive. Featuring songs from J-Pop artists, we need to touch, slide and tap the screen where each song featuring side-story where we have to cheer them to good ending. To me, a J-Pop fan, the selection songs are very good despite some of it are quite old and not sung by original artist. A must-have import if you own NDS, like music games and love J-Pop. If you don't really like Japanese musics, you can try another game titles Elite Beat Agents! with the same gameplay, but different side-story and English songs.   Game - MeteosMeteos (Google It) (Wikipedia) is simple yet addictive puzzle game for the NDS. It's play very similar with Tetris Attack with touch screen. Similar with Tetris, Meteos is very easy to learn, yet hard to really master it, you must have very good reflexes. Puzzle lover will love this.   Game - NintendogsNintendogs (Google It) (Wikipedia) from Nintendo (Google It) (Wikipedia) is a dog petting simulator on NDS, which is getting more and more sellable in US. It also spawn 6 different versions of the game for you to breed different dogs. Featuring almost real graphics and sound effect, the dogs will need to be taken care of, just like real dogs. You can even interact with it using the NDS touch screen and talk to it with the built-in microphone. So if you like dogs and no place/lazy/cant afford to pet a real dog, get yourself a NDS and try this game.     октября 07 Anime - Gokujou SeitokaiGokujou Seitokai (極上生徒会) (Google It) (Wikipedia) is a good 26 episodes anime which definately worth our precious anime time. It's about a group of high school girls who have various of talent and run the school, instead of adults. Tha main character, has a puppet that can think and talk. Together, they aim for freedom in school, and life. Great drawing and story-line. Watch it to learn more. Plot summary from Anime News Network - Plot Summary: Rino Randou is a young girl with a head full of air and a talking puppet on her hand. She is accepted into the illustrious Gokujou all-girl's school, and is summarily, almost curiously, accepted as part of the even more illustrious Gokujou Student Council, who has more power and business ventures than most large businesses. Now a part of the student council, she befriends the talented members of the Gokujou Student Council, leaving one to wonder how a girl with seemingly no talents or redeeming qualities would get chosen for such a group.   сентября 19 Game - New Super Mario Bros.With no doubt, the best 2D platformer has to be Super Mario Bros. (Google It) (Wikipedia) series and the version for NDS, the New Super Mario Bros. (Google It) (Wikipedia) is no exception. With new power-ups, new moves and enemies, make the whole game more interesting. (We cannot fly this time) It's quite easy to clear all the stages, with an exception, the last green castle, which resemble very much of the earlier level in Wario Land 4 (Google It) (Wikipedia), a Game Boy Advance (Google It) (Wikipedia) game. So if you played Wario Land 4 and finished it before, u can beat this game in no time. It's getting all the coins in each level that's difficult. Thankfully, we dun have to collect all 3 coins in a level to clear it. Multiplayer mode rocked hard too. It's basically 2 player trying to kill each other and steal big star from each other. Oh, and the various mini games keep the game cart from dust even u beaten the game and have no one to multiplayer with.   Game - WarioWare: Touched!WarioWare: Touched! (Google It) (Wikipedia) is a series of microgames, which can be completed fast if we:
- have quick reflexes touching stuff on the NDS screen
- our eyes are fast enough to catch the images that the game is throwing to us
- our brain fast enough to decephir what the game want us to do...
Which me dont. So its take me about a week to unlock all the microgames and character and see the credits. This game is really nice addition to our NDS game library. Just dont get too excited touching the NDS and blowing into it, if u happened to be on a train full of people, watching u.   сентября 18 Game - Phoenix Wright: Ace AttorneyPhoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Google It) (Wikipedia) is the first game in the Ace Attorney series (there's 4 now, only Phoenix Wright is in english, currently). Ace Attorney games is touted as lawyer, attorney simulator but then the story is line quite linear. To solve various trail cases, we need to talk to many people, go to many places, gathering important evidence and not-so-important stuff, before back to court, cross-examination witness and find contradiction to their testimonies. All this can be quite challenging as we dun know which piece of evidence is useful and which is rubbish. Cant wait for the second game of the series to be translated into english...
